The REACH lab’s Minority Health Disparities Initiative (MHDI) project has partnered with other community organizations on an exhibit at the Nebraska History Museum called “Looking Past Skin: Our Common Threads.” The exhibit will be located on the third floor of the museum which is at the intersection of P Street and Centennial Mall. “Looking Past Skin” will open to the public during Lincoln’s First Friday events on January 5th.
The exhibit explores the history of migration into the United States and Nebraska. The exhibit especially focuses on the vibrant Sudanese, Karen, and Yazidi populations in Nebraska and explores their history in the state and their culture. Features in the exhibit include a Photovoice project on Lexington’s dynamic history as well as “Ask a Doctor?”–an interactive exhibit on community health in diverse, rural areas.
